2025 - FRIEZE MASTERS - SPOTLIGHT
(London, 15.-19.10.2025)
Following a solo exhibition at Galerie Mueller in Basel in 2022, the gallery now brings Sonja Sekula’s work to the Frieze Masters Spotlight Sector.
On view is a selection of works on paper and canvas from 1945 to 1961. The choice of works will not only show the artist’s versatility but also give an insight into the rapidly changing American art scene during those fifteen years. Reaching back to a 1945 work on paper that directly reflects her immersive study of Native American rituals during her time in New Mexico, to a poetically entitled, large scratch work from 1958, the selection will bring to light an artist’s oeuvre that tragically died in her mid-forties.

The Zurich-based artist Klaudia Schifferle (*1955) rose to prominence in the 1980s as a painter, sculptor, musician, and co-founder of the legendary all-female band Kleenex (later LiLiPUT). Her work is defined by experimentation and a wide range of media – from painting on canvas, paper, and cardboard to sculptures made from diverse materials.
Following the joint exhibition by Galerie Mueller and Weiss Falk in 2024, the current presentation features a curated selection of works from 1980–1987, offering a glimpse into Schifferle’s unique cosmos where emotion, punk attitude, and artistic freedom converge.

The Galerie Mueller is presenting five works by Jean Tinguely at Art Basel for the first time, including three machines from his estate and two of his well-known reliefs. Tinguely, a key figure in kinetic art and Nouveau Réalisme, is renowned for his moving machines and striking reliefs.
Born in Basel and shaped by Paris and the United States, Tinguely’s works embody the symbiosis of motion and stillness. His avant-garde machine artworks, often constructed from everyday objects, push the boundaries of the traditional concept of art.
“There is no such thing as standstill,” Tinguely once said—and this philosophy runs through each of his works.
